Free high speed internet for all threatens to disrupt carriers – an update from Google and Space X
As reported previously, Project Loon is one of Google’s attempts to provide free high speed Internet access to the world’s population – and providing it free will seriously disrupt traditional carriers attempts to roll-out blanket WiFi on a subscription basis, (specifically BT’s takeover of EE). Google will make its money from selling more advertising.
Now we have a significant update. Elon Musk’s, of Tesla and PayPal fame, SpaceX project is designed to provide space transportation and has just received a $1 billion investment from Google. That’s not a trivial amount of money even for Google.
